Hi everyone! Today, Social Media Influencer and cleaning guru Arta (@mummyalwayscleans) shares with us ten surprising ways how coconut oil can help with cleaning!
1. Polish your wooden furniture
With a quick rub of coconut oil and a soft cloth, your wooden furniture will come alive in a matter of minutes. If you have a really sad situation, you can combine coconut oil with vinegar and lemon juice to give it a little extra cleaning power.
2. Clean your shower
When it comes to shop bought cleaner, it can get very expensive and the cost could be even greater to our health, so I have a great solution for it. Take this natural route and form a paste of coconut oil and baking soda. This wonderful mixture only takes 10 minutes to work its magic on soap scum and mildew. Wipe it clean with a dry cloth and prepare yourself for a sparkly clean shower.
3. Erase crayon from walls
Crayons really are amazing, but sometimes kids tend to mistake walls for their colouring book. We all make mistakes, don’t we? Look no further than a jar of coconut oil and your regular cleaning cloth.
4. Remove scuff marks
We all come across these, don’t we? Sometimes, no matter what cleaner you use, stubborn marks tend to win. You can apply coconut oil directly onto the affected area, but wear your dancing shoes before you do it, and then dance like no one it watching! 😉
5. Clean and restore (vegan) leather
Coconut oil is known for its moisturising properties and it’s a brilliant choice for your dried-out leather sofa, or even shoes that just look a bit sad. While it will moisturise, the antibacterial properties of coconut oil will get to work leaving you with restored and shiny (vegan) leather products.
6. Prevent tomato sauce and other stains in Tupperware
Nobody has time for endless scrubbing, so we have to be smarter and come prepared to avoid it by rubbing a small amount of coconut oil in your Tupperware before filling it with that yummy lunch. Awesome, isn’t it?
7. Condition wooden utensils
We all have that really old looking wooden spoon, don’t we? As I mentioned above, coconut oil is brilliant for moisturising and with just a small amount you’ll be able to give your wooden utensils a new life.
8. Season Cast Iron Pans
Before you can cook your perfect vegan steak in your new skillet, you must season your cast iron properly to create a slick cooking surface. This involves covering the pan’s surface with a thin layer of oil and baking it in the oven. The best seasoning oil is – you guessed it – coconut oil!
9. Remove Gum
Accidents can happen and this can be a sticky accident, either tangled in carpet fibres or your hair – look no further than a home remedy (coconut oil!) and let it work through the mess.
10. Prevent Dust
Either it’s your wooden or plastic surfaces, there is nothing worse than constant occurrence of dust. Save yourself some precious time and clean that hard reach area with coconut oil. The same goes for wooden furniture – just a quick wipe and you will have yourself a gleaming surface which will stay that way for a good while.
How do you keep your house clean in an eco friendly way? What’s your favourite way of using coconut oil?
