Reusable bamboo pads review

When it comes to zero waste, I like to do my part. When I realised how makeup remover pads are ending up in landfill sites and blocking sewage systems, I decided to look into a reusable alternative.

It took me a while to figure out what to buy because I wasn’t sure what would be the best choice—cotton, bamboo, hemp? But eventually I chose bamboo reusable makeup pads.

When I made my own reusable sanitary pads I made one teeny tiny mistake—I used bright orange and white fabric. Not the best idea; even though I do get them clean, it takes a bit more effort to get the stains out. That’s why with these reusable makeup pads, I decided to go for a darker colour. I still have a white towel with mascara stripes on it (whoops!) so I didn’t want to take that risk.

My eye fell on these Charcoal Bamboo Delight makeup pads from mylittleecoshop.com, which seemed to do the trick. Or as they state, “It’s great for removing mascara and other tough to remove cosmetics.” Perfect! When they arrived I was a bit surprised to see that they’re more grey than black, but that’s not really an issue for me.

Using and washing the pads
I felt like I could only write this article after I’d used, washed, and then used the pads again, to give you a feeling of how these reusable makeup remover pads actually are.

These bamboo makeup pads are so soft, it’s a bliss. My skin can be a bit fussy at times and cotton wipes would usually result in red, unhappy skin. These bamboo pads are gentle and very soft. Another thing that made me happy is its size. The pads are slightly bigger which make them easy to handle.

The great thing about this 12pc set is that it comes with a handy little net bag. I ordered an extra cotton net mesh bag to store the pads in after I used them. My little eco shop has a section on their website about how to look after your makeup remover pads and washing them, which came in very handy. You can wash the pads in the mesh laundry bag. I washed them together with my dark garments on 30 C, after which I left them to dry naturally.

After washing the pads they still feel soft, which is great. I really like that I can just throw in the pads with my dark garments and don’t have to think about it. I was worried that it would be a hassle (having to wash them separately or something like that), but it doesn’t really add anything extra to my washing routine, which is great.

Overall rating: ★★★★★
I’m super happy with these bamboo reusable pads. They’re soft to the touch, easy to clean, and they do the trick: they remove my makeup and leave me with a clean face.
