Why I Wear Bamboo Socks – and Why You Should, Too

All my socks were wearing out – which is why I planned to get new ones. I wanted to make a conscious choice, so I did a little bit of research beforehand.

Nowadays, it is becoming increasingly clear how certain products harm the environment in many different ways. This also goes for clothing – did you know that just washing them can pollute the oceans? Clothes made from polyester, nylon, acryl, and other synthetic fibers might be cheap, but they come at a great cost… With every wash, tiny plastic particles end up getting flushed through the drains. I decided to take at least one step into the right direction, by choosing bamboo socks.

Why choose bamboo socks?
Bamboo fabric, also called “bamboo viscose”, is made by extracting cellulose from wood pulp. Bamboo barely needs water, doesn’t need harmful pesticides and is 100% biodegradable, making it a very environmental friendly material. And if that were not enough, bamboo absorbs more carbon dioxide from the air than cotton. Another good thing to know is that bamboo yields the same volume as cotton from 10% of the land area.

Dry feet, happy skin
Environmental reasons besides, choosing bamboo clothes or socks in particular will make your body happy too. Bamboo is 40% more absorbent than even the finest organic cotton. I have experienced myself that after a day of hard work, my feet are still dry, even though I tend to have sweaty feet (TMI, sorry!).

Another great aspect is how soft it is to the touch, even after washing. Putting on these socks in the morning is just so comfortable! As the material is breathable and thermo-regulating, your feet will stay comfortable during all sorts of weather; cool during summer, warm in winter. Bamboo is also hypo-allergenic, meaning everyone can enjoy it.

Bamboo lasts longer
Somehow, socks don’t really agree with my feet. After a couple of uses they usually end up with holes at either my toes or heels. But clothing made out of bamboo is very durable; “Compared to other materials, the bamboo plants and fabric end up having much longer fibers that are more strongly coupled to one another, resulting in a much more durable cloth”. Conclusion
Bamboo clothes are better for the environment, not only because bamboo need less water and yield way more than other organic plants, but also because they are strong and durable. Bamboo socks are an excellent choice if you have sweaty feet as they are 40% more absorbent than even the finest cotton.

If all this has not yet convinced you to switch to bamboo socks, then my giveaway might convince you! Head over to my Instagram and like this photo. Tag your friends and share on your grid for an extra entry! Giveaway closes 16 July 2019 at noon and a winner will randomly be chosen that evening.
